- A firewall or other protection is advised for computers using a dedicated internet connection. A firewall could deter hackers from pentrating your system. Once penetrated, they could view the contents of your hard drive, steal private information, control your computer remotely, and use your computer to attack other computer systems. Your computer would have to be on for the above to happen.

The service activation for your DSL service will be free if you self-install your service. If a technician performs the installation, the service activation and installation charge is $99.
